Kaitlin Barnett, LMSW received her MSW from SUNY-Albany and completed clinical training at the Albany Med Department of Psychiatry’s outpatient Medicaid clinic, and at Good Samaritan Nursing Home. Before joining Northpointe, she provided therapy to adolescents and adults at Psychology Wellness Practice in Albany.

Kaitlin’s clinical interests include chronic pain and chronic illness, mental health in LGBTQ+ populations, pre- and postnatal mental health, transitions to adulthood, and trauma. She employs an array of therapeutic modalities tailored to each client. These include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, CBT, insight-oriented therapy, humanistic and person-oriented therapy, as well as attachment-based and family systems approaches. She also incorporates mind-body practices, such as mindfulness, polyvagal techniques, and yoga breathing and meditation. Kaitlin can also incorporate a Jewish perspective into counseling, as requested.

Before becoming a psychotherapist, Kaitlin wrote extensively about mental health as a journalist and nonfiction author. Her book, Dosed: The Medication Generation Grows Up, chronicled how taking psychiatric medication from a young age impacts young people’s development and sense of self. Dosed was called a must-read by the American Psychological Association’s book review and the Pew Research Center’s Prescription Project. She has written for numerous other publications, both locally and nationally. Kaitlin also holds a Master of Science from Columbia Journalism School. She graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College, where she served as executive editor of the daily newspaper and majored in history.
